It needs root to access raw sockets

You have to use

 sudo gomphs --hosts "google.com"

Or make it setuid

sudo chown root.root gomphs
sudo chmod 4755 gomphs
gomphs --hosts "google.com"

If you do ls -al /bin/ping on your centos66 you'll see that ping is also setuid root
