Hi, thanks for reaching out. I have no idea why you're experiencing this, but I don't think it's related to the downloader. The example app downloads a 5MB file in less than a second (to completion, with progress updates and a similar progress bar). It is possible the OS is highly loaded, or the server from which you download is. I am going to close this as this doesn't feel like a plugin issue.
