Hello,
I am currently working with a time series dataset where the dates are irregular (for example, the first entry is on January 15th, 2020, the second entry is on February 27th, 2020, and the third entry is on April 2nd, 2020). The data does not follow a fixed frequency, and I need to modify the time series so that it fits a regular frequency (such as monthly or daily) to be used as input for a model.
Could someone help guide me on how to handle this situation? What steps can I take to convert my irregular time series into a regular time series with fixed intervals?
Any advice or resources would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
You can "pad" the missing values for dates by creating artificial rows that contain zeros for the target values. That way, you will have a sequence of values for every date and time in your dataset.
Hope this is helpful.

Hi One simple trick is to check out the following code snippet and run it. It will give you ideas on how to handle your own situation.Hope this helps,Ramimport pandas as pd
# Step 1: Load the datadata = { 'date': ['2020-01-15', '2020-02-27', '2020-04-02'], 'value': [10, 20, 30]}df = pd.DataFrame(data)df['date'] = pd.to_datetime(df['date'])
# Step 2: Set the date column as indexdf.set_index('date', inplace=True)
# Step 3: Resample the data to a regular frequency (e.g., monthly)# You can use 'D' for daily, 'M' for monthly, etc.resampled_df = df.resample('M').mean()
# Step 4: Handle missing values (e.g., forward fill)resampled_df.ffill(inplace=True)
print(resampled_df)
