Now 1.5 yrs later and still the same status... is this project abandoned?

If you don't want notifications, you can just unsubscribe. The issue remains that the documentation needs to be updated. I'm moving to another project, so I'm not going to open my own issue for this, but not sure why you decided to close the ticket when the issue still exists. Others might want this fixed.
