hrm, I am still running gcc 13.2.1, will have to install 14 to check, but my initial guess is that you are hitting a bit of undefined behaviour that I am in the middle of fixing, should have a patch posted shortly.

In the previous patch, we re-enabled some deeper checks for deep files in the core library (-c of exrcheck) and that checking code itself isn't handling when there are no samples to decode and short-cutting the processing. So it is going ahead and saying "make the vector 0 samples sized" (to read into), and then accessing the vector as &v[0]. Because there are 0 samples, it does not actually USE this pointer, so is strictly speaking safe, however the newer safer code asserts and checks are failing on the access of a null pointer (because they don't know we won't use it).
