want drawings added?

For authors we'll want to add a bios page.

tsloughter avatar tsloughter commented on June 16, 2024

Regarding drawings, that is up to you. If they aren't directly related to the content, like the one drawing, we don't need to hold up a first release.

Decided to delay the PDF for the first release. I'm checking the PDF font task as well since that gets "cancelled" by not doing the PDF.

Should we try deciding on initial chapters soon?

from adoptingerlang.

ferd avatar ferd commented on June 16, 2024

yeah it would make sense.
If we want to drop in a chapter a month, then picking at least one that is past the set-up content would be good. Then we add as we go. The question is whether we release in order, in order per section (i.e. we're free to do any of the 3 sections, as long as they are in relative order), or just random.

tsloughter avatar tsloughter commented on June 16, 2024

I think in order per section.

Mostly because I'd like to get the Docker section out as soon as it can be ready after Docker 19.03 is released. I would think it'll be released in weeks not months.. but who knows. And it would go along with the Release section.

It requires having service_discovery in a state that it builds and runs. Just have to decide how much of it needs to work before releasing those chapters. I'd think just branching and using it just in a state that erldns works so dns queries can hit it and it uses static dns records would be fine for describing releases and docker.

I can turn my attention from kubernetes to development sections now so maybe we can have some of those ready before production sections go out.

ferd avatar ferd commented on June 16, 2024

that works for me. We've got a bunch in the first section so that's fine. people will probably like a changelog somewhere or RSS feed for new chapters though

from adoptingerlang.

tsloughter avatar tsloughter commented on June 16, 2024

Adding a changelog page is a good idea. There is a way to do an rss feed with hugo https://gohugo.io/templates/rss/ but I haven't looked to see if it is easy to do what we are doing with it.

ferd avatar ferd commented on June 16, 2024

Changelog + twitter / slack announcements could do the job fine

tsloughter avatar tsloughter commented on June 16, 2024

Should we do the first couple sections of the Development chapter and maybe the first two of Production?

from adoptingerlang.

ferd avatar ferd commented on June 16, 2024

Yeah that sounds good.

@tsloughter fwiw the bit at the bottom of this page: https://5d460c4ca9b13392999a4385--inspiring-shannon-000ae0.netlify.com/docs/development/otp_applications/ where there's broken markdown is actually properly-formatted org-mode stuff, and it seems to be a kind of conversion bug between formats.

tsloughter avatar tsloughter commented on June 16, 2024

@ferd ok. I can look at that.

Besides that and I can try to get next/prev links done by tomorrow is there anything else we need to wait on?

from adoptingerlang.

tsloughter avatar tsloughter commented on June 16, 2024

I think with my latest 2 PRs all of these except the "style and tone" one can be marked complete and we are set for a first release.

Closing.
