Equation 12, the summation needs to include the full denominator. See Cochran for clarification.

If I can get this done on the boat, that would be a miracle but I'm gonna make this a summer goal for myself.

Can you look over this document which covers the math background to the design-based indices? No real timeline for this task, so whenever you have a dull moment you want to make duller..

Hi Zack - sorry for the delay on this. I will check it out tomorrow morning.

Very minor comments. I think these are partly just like, equation conventions that are slightly more confusing to me than the average math person. Everything looks really good!

  • In "biomass and abundance calculations" section, add that $n_i$ is the number of strata (it's very clear that that's what it is, but I'm just being extra about it!)
  • Also under biomass and abundance, add that $I$ is the total count of subareas or strata.
  • Under age composition, change $q$ to italics: index by q --> "indexed by $q$"
  • I am sure $q$ is the convention, but I also always try to remove it from stuff because it is such a stock assessment letter. Heaven forbid anyone think we're talking about catchability!

The answer to why we provide mean length-at-age is kind of a shoulder shrug emoji. The SD (or SE?) is associated with the mean length, not the age comp and is equation is modified to account for different calculation weights. I will close this comment for now but feel free to open it back up if anything else comes up.
