If all you care about is building the library: try using CMake to build the library.

If you want to help me debug this:
What version of Mac OS are you building this on?
What version of autoconf are you using (whats the output of autoconf --version)?

What version of Xcode are you using?

If you're using v4.3 or later it appears that Apple no longer installs the command line tools by default. If you're like me and just upgraded from v4.2, it didn't upgrade the existing tools - instead just left some of them in a half-broken state. Autotools is one of them.

Here's what I had to do to get it to work:

Even though it took me a while to get it installed I did stumble across different issues in Mac OS 10.8 . Hopefully this will help. First make sure you have autoconf, libtool and automake, . You can install both using brew: brew install autoconf libtool automake"

Alan,

My apologies for the delayed response and thank you so much for the
feedback!

I have been very busy the last couple of days but I should be able to work
on the installation today or tomorrow.

I will let you know how it goes.
