Note that you can do this in bash (probably zsh too):

{ rm file && pawk ... > file; } < file

In bash space after { is mandatory

You are right ionelmc, and I probably should have thought to mention it as a workaround originally. It feels pretty verbose if I am just trying to run a quick command from the command line though.

Running pawk_test.py, I got this error: "ImportError: cannot import name parse_commandline"
