gnome-shell-extension-net-speed's Introduction

Net Speed

Show current net speed on panel.

This extension is inspired by https://github.com/biji/simplenetspeed/ which has some annoying flickers existing for a long time so I decide to create my own alternative. I removed all features that I won't use.

It only shows text like โ†“ 777 K/s โ†‘ 2.33 K/s on the right part of panel. No font size changing, no total downloaded bytes, no bits.

Usage

$ git clone https://github.com/AlynxZhou/gnome-shell-extension-net-speed.git ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/[email protected]

or install it from https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/4478/net-speed/.

Then restart GNOME Shell and enable Net Speed from GNOME Extensions.

gnome-shell-extension-net-speed's Issues

Network interface selection

Is it possible to have a setting to monitor a specific interface instead of combining all of them? I use a vpn app and my network speed is not very accurate because it creates a new interface. Thanks.

Incompatible with Gnome 44.2

This extension is great and I really want to use it in future. But it unfortunately got disabled from Gnome with the message: Incompatible with the current gnome version (44.2).
It would be great if the extension receives an update, so that it can be used in future.

Skip Wireguard virtual interfaces

Hello, thanks for this extension. I made a fork for myself since I like speeds in bits/s rather than bytes/s.

Anyway I saw you skip virtual interfaces, but unfortunately mine is not skipped with a VPN I use. I made a workaround here: Digitalone1@ffc3394

Just added iface.startsWith("wg-"). Maybe you want to add it to your branch.

And maybe for performance reasons it would be better to make one only aggregated regex. See here: https://regex101.com/r/v1ByIq/1

Bye.

GNOME 45 support
