When running the following code in Jupyter lab:

I would like to see, from the python side, some loading dots, as can be seen in the code.

However, what occurs is that the python output stops while the custom js code is being evaluated.

This is probably expected behavior from jupyter_ui_poll, but for the purposes of this test library, it would be nice to be able to see loading dots in order to be able to tell when the js custom code has finished evaluating.

Is there way to do this? Which widget events should I reply? Does kernel.do_one_iteration() suffice for this?
