Features

Important Notices

Important

Since the GitHub API only allows 5k requests per hour per user account, the public Vercel instance hosted on https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api could possibly hit the rate limiter (see #1471). We use caching to prevent this from happening (see https://github.com/anuraghazra/github-readme-stats#common-options). You can turn off these rate limit protections by deploying your own Vercel instance.

Uptime Badge

Important

We're a small team, and to prioritize, we rely on upvotes 👍. We use the Top Issues dashboard for tracking community demand (see #1935). Do not hesitate to upvote the issues and pull requests you are interested in. We will work on the most upvoted first.

GitHub Stats Card

Copy and paste this into your markdown, and that's it. Simple!

Change the ?username= value to your GitHub username.

[![Anurag's GitHub stats](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra)](https://github.com/anuraghazra/github-readme-stats)

Warning

By default, the stats card only shows statistics like stars, commits, and pull requests from public repositories. To show private statistics on the stats card, you should deploy your own instance using your own GitHub API token.

Note

Available ranks are S (top 1%), A+ (12.5%), A (25%), A- (37.5%), B+ (50%), B (62.5%), B- (75%), C+ (87.5%) and C (everyone). This ranking scheme is based on the Japanese academic grading system. The global percentile is calculated as a weighted sum of percentiles for each statistic (number of commits, pull requests, reviews, issues, stars, and followers), based on the cumulative distribution function of the exponential and the log-normal distributions. The implementation can be investigated at src/calculateRank.js. The circle around the rank shows 100 minus the global percentile.

Hiding individual stats

You can pass a query parameter &hide= to hide any specific stats with comma-separated values.

Options: &hide=stars,commits,prs,issues,contribs

![Anurag's GitHub stats](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&hide=contribs,prs)

Showing additional individual stats

You can pass a query parameter &show= to show any specific additional stats with comma-separated values.

Options: &show=reviews,discussions_started,discussions_answered,prs_merged,prs_merged_percentage

![Anurag's GitHub stats](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&show=reviews,discussions_started,discussions_answered,prs_merged,prs_merged_percentage)

Showing icons

To enable icons, you can pass &show_icons=true in the query param, like so:

![Anurag's GitHub stats](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&show_icons=true)

Themes

With inbuilt themes, you can customize the look of the card without doing any manual customization.

Use &theme=THEME_NAME parameter like so :

![Anurag's GitHub stats](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&show_icons=true&theme=radical)

All inbuilt themes

GitHub Readme Stats comes with several built-in themes (e.g. dark, radical, merko, gruvbox, tokyonight, onedark, cobalt, synthwave, highcontrast, dracula).

GitHub Readme Stats Themes

You can look at a preview for all available themes or checkout the theme config file. Please note that we paused the addition of new themes to decrease maintenance efforts; all pull requests related to new themes will be closed.

Responsive Card Theme

Anurag's GitHub stats-Dark Anurag's GitHub stats-Light

Since GitHub will re-upload the cards and serve them from their CDN, we can not infer the browser/GitHub theme on the server side. There are, however, four methods you can use to create dynamics themes on the client side.

Use the transparent theme

We have included a transparent theme that has a transparent background. This theme is optimized to look good on GitHub's dark and light default themes. You can enable this theme using the &theme=transparent parameter like so:

![Anurag's GitHub stats](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&show_icons=true&theme=transparent)
👀 Show example

Anurag's GitHub stats

Add transparent alpha channel to a themes bg_color

You can use the bg_color parameter to make any of the available themes transparent. This is done by setting the bg_color to a color with a transparent alpha channel (i.e. bg_color=00000000):

![Anurag's GitHub stats](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&show_icons=true&bg_color=00000000)
👀 Show example

Use GitHub's theme context tag

You can use GitHub's theme context tags to switch the theme based on the user GitHub theme automatically. This is done by appending #gh-dark-mode-only or #gh-light-mode-only to the end of an image URL. This tag will define whether the image specified in the markdown is only shown to viewers using a light or a dark GitHub theme:

[![Anurag's GitHub stats-Dark](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&show_icons=true&theme=dark#gh-dark-mode-only)](https://github.com/anuraghazra/github-readme-stats#gh-dark-mode-only)
[![Anurag's GitHub stats-Light](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&show_icons=true&theme=default#gh-light-mode-only)](https://github.com/anuraghazra/github-readme-stats#gh-light-mode-only)
👀 Show example

Use GitHub's new media feature

You can use GitHub's new media feature in HTML to specify whether to display images for light or dark themes. This is done using the HTML <picture> element in combination with the prefers-color-scheme media feature.

<picture>
  <source
    srcset="https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&show_icons=true&theme=dark"
    media="(prefers-color-scheme: dark)"
  />
  <source
    srcset="https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&show_icons=true"
    media="(prefers-color-scheme: light), (prefers-color-scheme: no-preference)"
  />

Top Languages Card

The top languages card shows a GitHub user's most frequently used languages.

Warning

By default, the language card shows language results only from public repositories. To include languages used in private repositories, you should deploy your own instance using your own GitHub API token.

Note

Top Languages does not indicate the user's skill level or anything like that; it's a GitHub metric to determine which languages have the most code on GitHub. It is a new feature of github-readme-stats.

Warning

This card shows language usage only inside your own non-forked repositories, not depending on who the author of the commits is. It does not include your contributions into another users/organizations repositories. Currently there are no way to get this data from GitHub API. If you want this behavior to be improved you can support this feature request created by @rickstaa inside GitHub Community.

Warning

Currently this card shows data only about first 100 repositories. This is because GitHub API limitations which cause downtimes of public instances (see #1471). In future this behavior will be improved by releasing GitHub action or providing environment variables for user's own instances.

Usage

Copy-paste this code into your readme and change the links.

[![Top Langs](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api/top-langs/?username=anuraghazra)](https://github.com/anuraghazra/github-readme-stats)

Language stats algorithm

We use the following algorithm to calculate the languages percentages on the language card:

ranking_index = (byte_count ^ size_weight) * (repo_count ^ count_weight)

By default, only the byte count is used for determining the languages percentages shown on the language card (i.e. size_weight=1 and count_weight=0). You can, however, use the &size_weight= and &count_weight= options to weight the language usage calculation. The values must be positive real numbers. More details about the algorithm can be found here.

  • &size_weight=1&count_weight=0 - (default) Orders by byte count.
  • &size_weight=0.5&count_weight=0.5 - (recommended) Uses both byte and repo count for ranking
  • &size_weight=0&count_weight=1 - Orders by repo count
![Top Langs](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api/top-langs/?username=anuraghazra&size_weight=0.5&count_weight=0.5)

Exclude individual repositories

You can use the &exclude_repo=repo1,repo2 parameter to exclude individual repositories.

![Top Langs](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api/top-langs/?username=anuraghazra&exclude_repo=github-readme-stats,anuraghazra.github.io)

Hide individual languages

You can use &hide=language1,language2 parameter to hide individual languages.

![Top Langs](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api/top-langs/?username=anuraghazra&hide=javascript,html)

Show more languages

You can use the &langs_count= option to increase or decrease the number of languages shown on the card. Valid values are integers between 1 and 20 (inclusive). By default it was set to 5 for normal & donut and 6 for other layouts.

![Top Langs](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api/top-langs/?username=anuraghazra&langs_count=8)

Compact Language Card Layout

You can use the &layout=compact option to change the card design.

![Top Langs](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api/top-langs/?username=anuraghazra&layout=compact)

Donut Chart Language Card Layout

Quick Tip (Align The Cards)

By default, GitHub does not lay out the cards side by side. To do that, you can use this approach:

<a href="https://github.com/anuraghazra/github-readme-stats">
  <img height=200 align="center" src="https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra" />

Deploy on your own

On Vercel

Since the GitHub API only allows 5k requests per hour, my https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api could possibly hit the rate limiter. If you host it on your own Vercel server, then you do not have to worry about anything. Click on the deploy button to get started!

Note

Since #58, we should be able to handle more than 5k requests and have fewer issues with downtime 😁.

Note

If you are on the Pro (i.e. paid) Vercel plan, the maxDuration value found in the vercel.json can be increased when your Vercel instance frequently times out during the card request. You are advised to keep this value lower than 30 seconds to prevent high memory usage.

Deploy to Vercel

🛠️ Step-by-step guide on setting up your own Vercel instance
  1. Go to vercel.com.
  2. Click on Log in.
  3. Sign in with GitHub by pressing Continue with GitHub.
  4. Sign in to GitHub and allow access to all repositories if prompted.
  5. Fork this repo.
  6. Go back to your Vercel dashboard.
  7. To import a project, click the Add New... button and select the Project option.
  8. Click the Continue with GitHub button, search for the required Git Repository and import it by clicking the Import button. Alternatively, you can import a Third-Party Git Repository using the Import Third-Party Git Repository -> link at the bottom of the page.
  9. Create a personal access token (PAT) here and enable the repo and user permissions (this allows access to see private repo and user stats).
  10. Add the PAT as an environment variable named PAT_1 (as shown).
  11. Click deploy, and you're good to go. See your domains to use the API!

On other platforms

Warning

This way of using GRS is not officially supported and was added to cater to some particular use cases where Vercel could not be used (e.g. #2341). The support for this method, therefore, is limited.

🛠️ Step-by-step guide for deploying on other platforms
  1. Fork or clone this repo as per your needs
  2. Add express to the dependencies section of package.json
    "dependencies": {
    "axios": "^0.24.0",
    "dotenv": "^8.2.0",
    "emoji-name-map": "^1.2.8",
    "github-username-regex": "^1.0.0",
    "upgrade": "^1.1.0",
    "word-wrap": "^1.2.3"
    },
  3. Run npm i if needed (initial setup)
  4. Run node express.js to start the server, or set the entry point to express.js in package.json if you're deploying on a managed service
    "main": "src/index.js",
  5. You're done 🎉

Disable rate limit protections

Github Readme Stats contains several Vercel environment variables that can be used to remove the rate limit protections:

  • CACHE_SECONDS: This environment variable takes precedence over our cache minimum and maximum values and can circumvent these values for self-hosted Vercel instances.

See the Vercel documentation on adding these environment variables to your Vercel instance.

Keep your fork up to date

You can keep your fork, and thus your private Vercel instance up to date with the upstream using GitHub's Sync Fork button. You can also use the pull package created by @wei to automate this process.

💖 Support the project

I open-source almost everything I can and try to reply to everyone needing help using these projects. Obviously, this takes time. You can use this service for free.

However, if you are using this project and are happy with it or just want to encourage me to continue creating stuff, there are a few ways you can do it:

  • Giving proper credit when you use github-readme-stats on your readme, linking back to it. :D
  • Starring and sharing the project. 🚀
  • paypal.me/anuraghazra - You can make a one-time donations via PayPal. I'll probably buy a coffee tea. 🍵

github-readme-stats's Issues

Total commits shown on the card is way less than actual

Describe the bug
Total commits shown on the card is way less than actual. A single repo of mine https://github.com/rampatra/Algorithms-and-Data-Structures-in-Java has 230+ commits but the card only shows 108 commits in total. The repo is public too.

Expected behavior
I was expecting to sum up the commits in all of my public repos. If it can consider private repos then even better.

Screenshots / Live demo link (paste the github-readme-stats link as markdown image)

[Feature Request] Add organization stats

Most of my open-source work is moved to dedicated organizations (47ng, FortySevenEffects, Chiffre), for scoping and to avoid cluttering my personal repos.

I'd be happy to contribute a feature to include aggregated organization stats.

API ideas:

![Anurag's github stats](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&orgs=acme,evilcorp,fsociety)

algorithm: some consistency corrections required (consider add more ranks and unit tests for each rank)

Describe the bug
Base algorithm has been changed to Cumulative Distribution Function, in order to get more accurate results, in this commit. But I'm not too sure either CDF really improves our rank algorithm. We have still have some consistency issues. (See the 'Additional context' below)

  1. We can handle this problem if we add more ranks like: A, A+, A++, B, B+, B++, ... or AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, ...
  2. We should add more unit tests here for each rank, to make sure that there is no consistency problems between ranks there.
  3. We can add a rank-up table in README file, in order to know what values required to rank up and demonstrate how rank system works.
  4. Would Relative Grading solve this problem? (S+, S, A++, A+, B are not enough. )

Boolean query parameters incorrectly parsed

The boolean query parameters, such as show_icons, hide_border and hide_rank, are being incorrectly parsed, as passing false to them has the same effect as if passing true:

All true

With all the settings set to true, the behavior is as expected.

https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=MicaelJarniac&show_icons=true&hide_border=true&hide_rank=true

All false

But with all settings set to false, the behavior should be the same as the default one, with no extra query at all, but it isn't.

https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=MicaelJarniac&show_icons=false&hide_border=false&hide_rank=false

Default (no extra query)

https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=MicaelJarniac

I believe what's happening is that the only thing being checked is whether they exist or not, and not what their values actually are.

This isn't directly affecting the usage, but is a small detail that can be rather confusing at times.

For example, I like to tweak the settings from time to time, and to make it easier, I like to have all the settings explicitly declared, so I can easily see which ones are available, and simply change their values. With the way the query is being parsed right now, that wouldn't be an option, as I'd actually have to remove the setting completely in order to change its effect.

Provide option for adjusting box width

Currently there is an option available to control the line-height between text &line_height=29, but it would be better if there is an additional option to control the box width like &box_width=11.

help with hosting

I am new to vercel hosting,
When I clicked on deploy I got an error related to code not found,
I belive I did a mistake in setting the correct directory of code on vercel. Can you please be adding more info for self hosting.

[Feature request] System based theme

Not a overly urgent feature, but would be a neat feature to add support for system theme detection using CSS' prefers-color-scheme media attribute to fetch the system theme color and set the stats/repo card styles based on it.
Example:

![Anurag's github stats](https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&system_theme=true)

[Bug] Few issues with a repo description

Describe the bug

  1. Only one line of a description gets displayed on a repo card. This seems a bit confusing since GitHub usually displays few lines if needed. This makes these cards and GitHub's standard pins less interchangeable.
  2. The description of one of my repositories didn't get trimmed at all for some reason (see the live demo below).

Expected behavior

  1. Display few lines if needed, at least two.
  2. Trim the description as expected.

Spanish translation request

Hello 👋, my name is José De Freitas, I'm a native Spanish speaker.

I'm opening this issue because I saw that recently there was added Chinese translation, This had me wondering if you're looking for translations. If so, I could help translate this project into Spanish.
I could translate the all this project into Spanish. Let me know if you're interested.

Have a great day ✌.

Misaligned text and emojis

Emojis seem to be inconsistently sized, and that causes text following it to not end up left-aligned as it should be. The emojis themselves also seem misaligned.

I believe an "easy" solution (or workaround, I should say) for this would be to have the emojis and the actual text in different "layers", with the text layer further to the right, so that the text can be left-aligned on its own layer, and the emojis can be centered on their layer, one not affecting the other.

I've tried to diagram what I meant:

Star Count Issue?

Maybe I'm not understanding what "Total Stars" is supposed to represent but shouldn't these values match?

[Feature Request] Support custom cache control

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Talking about rate limiter, it is better to have a customizable cache-control. E.g. I will use longer cache-control for repo card (extra pin). It is also helpful for people trying to avoid rate limiting.

Describe the solution you'd like

Add a parameter &cache_control=<maxage>. But the minimum maxage should retain 1800 to avoid abusement.

Additional context

Shields.IO has parameter ?cacheSeconds= support, and they are using 3600s as default cache-control.

Google Pixel weird rank view

Describe the bug
When trying out the rendering on different devices, on the newest (also older) Pixel phones (tested both on Android 11 and 9), the rank font huuuuge.

Expected behavior
It should look the same on all devices.

[Feature Request] Hide 'name's GitHub Stats'

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
It would be nice if we could have an option to remove the "name's GitHub Stats" from the stats card

Describe the solution you'd like
Have an option false or true as a param in the URL to remove "name's GitHub Stats",

Thanks, casper.

I think it could be because my name is in Camel-Case.

Appreciate any help. 😃

Off-centered user rank

The user rating ("A", in this example) inside the progress circle is off-center, a bit off to the right of the circle's center.

Above is a static screenshot. Here's it live:

The URL that generated it is https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=MicaelJarniac&show_icons=true&title_color=fff&icon_color=79ff97&text_color=9f9f9f&bg_color=151515 (I used the dark mode preset)

[Feature Request] JSON output

At the moment, requests are made every time someone visits a user's profile, which will quickly go over your free limits on Vercel.

Since those stats don't really require a real-time update, they could be updated periodically and cached. Because the username/username repository is (for now) only used for profile READMEs, one way to do this could be to use GitHub Actions in cron mode and update the README (pull the stats, output Markdown and commit the updated file).

For the sake of composability, and following the Unix principles (multiple simple programs composed together), adding a JSON output to this API could work as the source for other tools (GitHub Action, Markdown generator).

Repository Cards on MediaWiki markup file won't show properly

Describe the bug
When trying to embed the image with <img> html tag or using embedding syntax ([[File:https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api/pin/?username=ryuuganime&repo=Ryuuganime]]) on MediaWiki README file, card are not behaving as it should be on like Markdown.

Expected behavior
Repository details were shown properly, behaving similar to Markdown.

[Feature] Dark mode

It is a really useful feature, that we can change the colors of the stats, but I would appreciate some sort of auto dark mode With dark mode coming to GitHub, I think it will have to be done sooner or later.
Nat Friedman's hacker news profile

I have a couple of proposed solutions, but none of them seems perfect.

  1. If the auto theme is enabled, query a weather service such as The Open Weather API, to get the sunset time for the current timezone - I am not sure how to get the time zone though.

Example: client => Vercel <= Weather API

  1. It would be best if you could query the @prefers-color-scheme data of the browser, as no timezone or other preference data would be needed.

Query: https://github-readme-stats.vercel.app/api?username=anuraghazra&prefers=dark

  1. The hardest solution - we could contact GitHub directly, to perhaps provide a feature, to set alternative image sources according to the current theme.

Something like: [GitHub README stats]({dark: https://darkmodeurl}, light: https://lightmodeurl) in markdown

[Discussion]: Showing attribution to the stats card

Hi everyone,

I've seen many people using this project and i'm really happy with it but the one thing i'm not really happy with is that 90% of them actually did not even attributed the project in any way, and a good chunk of people don't even know the origin of the stats they are using.
i know i might sound like a jerk but this project i'm giving time and effort to develop and maintain & and i'm doing this for free,
So i think the project deserves proper credits/attributions.

So for this reason i was thinking that i should show a attribution message at the bottom of the card like this :-

credit_grs

Now here's the nice part.

People can actually hide the attribution text with a condition, they have to star the repo.
if a user starred the repo then he/she would not see any attribution message but if not starred then we would show attribution text. :D

So i would have some logic to check if the current user starred the project before showing the attribution text, i'm not the only one who did implemented this logic i've seen many similar projects doing the same, so i was thinking to enforce people to at least visit the repo once i would do this.

I just wanted to know what you all think about this, and if you have any thoughts or you wanna add something please comment below.

[Feature Request] Show `Archived` badge when a repository is archived

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I have most of my repositories archived, but repos' cards don't inform about that.

Describe the solution you'd like
I would like to have an Archived badge, the same as GitHub's standard pins have.

But when I wrote something other than the color option at the end, it reflects well.

Improvement: Improve ranking algorithm

The ranking algorithm works ok but i have seen some users where they have relatively low stats but still got A, A++ ranks.

So the ranking algorithm is currently biased and unbalanced, if someone can create a better one feel free to contribute 😄

Cool project, is there a limitation to the number of commits/PRs it can fetch?

[Feature Request] Allow `show_icons` to be used with repos' cards

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Since most of my repositories don't have any stars and aren't forked by anyone (he-he...), I would like to be able to hide these stats from the repos' cards. This is how standard GitHub's pins behave.

Describe the solution you'd like
There's already a show_icons parameter for stats' cards, to have something similar to this for repositories' cards (excluding this additional information) would be quite pleasant.

Describe alternatives you've considered
This feature can also be added as a new parameter, like show_stats or something like that.

Additional context

Improvement: Use SVG icons instead of ASCII icons to be consistent.

Currently we are using ASCII icons are they are not really great choice because different devices render them differently, also they have size & variation inconsistencies, and also some devices might not render them. see #33

That's why i think it's better to use SVG icons similar to how "Github Extra Pins" uses svg icons, but the problem is i can't figure out how to render the SVGs inside of

Style collapses happened when showing icons on stats card

When displaying the icon, the characters "contributedTo" and the value appear to overlap.(MacOS Chrome)

Anurag's github stats

The ":" in the "contributedTo: 63" line is not visible on this stats card.

I think this is because the value of x (x="135") in line 21 of src/renderStatsCard.js remains constant without changing by "showIcons".

Can I send a Pull-Request that introduce a new variable "valueOffset" to set x="160" if showIcons is true and x="135" if false?

Thank you for making a great application.I am waiting for comments.
