@ElBrogrammer and I discussed modifying this a little so that there is (e.g.) a book
directory, that the user changes to before starting the notebook server. we could then number the directories so they show up in order.

As mentioned in email, as of IPython 2.0, Index.ipynb
files are special-cased and are shown at the top of the file listing. They can contain relative links to other notebooks in the hierarchy, and even to sections inside notebooks, since cells of a heading type are automatically targets. See the official IPython example collection for an illustration.
