Please note this response was created using generative AI leveraging previously available information from the repository. This information may be helpful however it is our strong recommendation that you carefully consider the information before blindly applying it.

The discrepancy in file size you've encountered when fetching the authelia-v4.38.7-public_html.tar.gz from GitHub could be due to several reasons, including an update or correction to the file after its initial release. It's not uncommon for developers to update release files to fix bugs or vulnerabilities shortly after their initial release without altering the version number. However, it's also important to consider the security implications of such a discrepancy.

To ensure the integrity and security of the file, I recommend the following steps:

  1. Verify the checksums: Check if the developers have provided checksums or cryptographic signatures for the release files. These can usually be found in the release notes or on the download page. Compare the checksum of your downloaded file with the official one to ensure they match.

  2. Check release notes and repositories: Look for any information in the release notes or GitHub repositories regarding updates or changes to the files post-release. Sometimes, developers mention these updates in the release notes or in the issues/commits on GitHub.

  3. Contact the developers: If you're still unsure or if the checksums do not match, it's a good practice to contact the developers directly. You can raise an issue in the GitHub repository or use other official communication channels to verify the authenticity of the file.

  4. Review community feedback: Checking forums, social media, or other community feedback can also provide insights into whether others have encountered similar issues and how they were resolved.

If you find that the file has been tampered with, it's important to notify the developers and the community to prevent potential security risks.

For additional context, we had to manually re-run the build due to an issue with the pre-compiled binaries and how it was reporting the tag on the release.

You can see all builds for v4.38.7 here.

You can see that both builds are on the same Git Commit SHA.
