Also is the Path to Lambda Project parameter set to the directory containing the Lambda function? I'm wondering if it is set to the directory containing the solution file. Are there any other sln or csproj files in the directory that Path to Lambda Project is pointing to besides the Lambda function project?

Was this a project you upgraded from .net core 1.0, or a new one? v2.0.1 of the tools, as referenced by your project, is the correct package version.
A new test project I created just now deploys fine with the latest version of the tools, if this was an upgraded project are you able to do a quick test with a brand new project?

I just determined that I needed to provide the entire path to the .CSPROJ file.
