If you want to to release the lock you can delete Tantivy's lockfile (.tantivy-writer.lock) which is located in index folder.

However, seems like the issue goes deeper :) The need for manually removing the lockfile would only arise due to panic, otherwise as long as there is only one index writer you should be fine. The problem is that currently Tantiny::Index.new tries to aquire the index writer lock on every call which essentially makes it impossible to use it in multithreaded or multiprocess environment even if only one process/thread is writing to the index. The easiest solution would be to make it optional, but I'll think about what would be the best approach here.
