To set an api key, either set api-key
in your ~/.bcoin/bcoin.conf (sample here), or you can run bcoin with $ bcoin --api-key=foo
.
If you don't pass in an api key, bcoin randomly generates one for you and will report it in the logs on boot.
If you're on a safe subnet or not accepting remote connections, you can pass --no-auth
for easy testing without an api key.
edit: The api key itself is Basic Auth. The username can be anything (bitcoinrpc for example), the password must be the api key.
To hit the api with bcoin-cli, you can run $ bcoin cli wallet balance --api-key=foo
. If your api key is in your config file, you don't need to pass it in as an arg.
An env variable will also work $ BCOIN_API_KEY=foo bcoin rpc getblockchaininfo
.
Tip: If you're syncing the chain for the first time. Passing --use-checkpoints
and --coin-cache
will speed up the sync dramatically.
