Can you specify? What's the purpose? Do you need other statistics?

It is useful to know how many words(in English) or characters(in other language like Chinese) I have write if I should write an article with a limit of 2000 words.

Fixed. You can even customize the statistics in settings->extensions->button "statistics".

Is it possible to create a custom button that will measure statistics for only a highlighted portion of the text? I have not used Marked2, but it appears that it has such a feature that will hover statistics over a highlighted portion of text (pretty cool). http://marked2app.com/help/Document_Statistics.html
