This is the code which powers the Material Notes / Scarlet Notes app on Android by Maubis Apps.

Material Notes is the fully offline FDroid version of the applications Scarlet / Scarlet Notes is the note apps available on the Play Store

This app is meant for a simple yet powerful rich text experience. It's still being built and improved.

[Request] Folders

Hi ! Thank you for developing that good app :)
I would be very happy if we have the functionality of sorting notes in different folders :) So that I can have a folder where all my "To Do notes" are, and an other where all my "thoughts notes" are for example ^^

It's impossible to create a new note (v3.7.0)

Since v3.7, "Add a quick note" opens last note created instead a new one.

It's an important bug because currently it's impossible to create a new note.

About the Time and Date Information Shown on the Card

Please give the option to disable the time and date of creation of a note so that it doesn't appear at the bottom of a card in both grid and list layout. Clutters the note, IMO.

[Feature Request] Automatically give different colors to notes

Currently we need to select the color for notes otherwise the color will be red. It will be great if the app gives different colors to each notes.
Optional settings is enough.

enable possibility to sync for more/all users

according to #2 i would suggest to rather support a more generic sync-method like WebDAV, so a variety of services and servers is supported at one swoop (and not just one closed service with proprietary software and protocol)!

BUT maybe the easiest would be to just provide a function to choose a folder where the notes will be saved, so the app itself stays truly offline and if desired everybody can sync his notes with whatever software and service he wants to.

Yellow color

I would like to have the possibility to create yellow notes.
Currently a proper yellow is missing in colors choice.
material_yellow_900 is "too orange" and it's very similiar to material_orange_700.

The same activity for view and edit a note

Now you use one activity for previewing a note and another activity for editing a note. It's not so cool as to use one activity for that purpose. Also an "edit" button is useless. If users taps on a note's view edit action should be called automatically.

Nubmers are cut off in ordered lists

Swiftkey Keyboard not giving all functionalities with app

When using Swiftkey keyboard app (that comes by default in many mobiles) while adding notes, the keyboard is not working fine.
The suggestions are not available for words and even the words cannot be typed from swiping letter to letter.
These features of keyboard works well with all other apps.

File attachment

Can you add the abilty to attach files (images, documents, etc), it's the the only feature i'm missing and very useful, thanks for the great app.

Show/Hide format bar button

I think that including a show/hide bar in the upper bar (where the X, colour selection and check symbol are) would be a very comfortable way to include it into other notes (like quick notes)

Change of Icon Title

First of all thanks for a very nice little app! A minor request though, I like the name Material Notes but would it be possible to shorten the name under the icon to just Notes or Motes (from Material Notes). The title is too long too be fully shown under the nice material icon ;) thanks

Swipe to delete/archive notes

I would like to swipe to delete or archive (according to preferences) notes.

Search field

What do you think about a search field in the tags, and is it even possible? After tapping on "Choose a tag...", for example.

Dots of bullet points are not aligned vertically with text

The dots look like a bit weird. They're not aligned vertically with text.

Very minor ui stuff, sorry for my OCD...

Make URLs in notes clickable

URLs in notes are just plain text and not recognized as clickable links, which makes it hard to open them in e.g. a browser, which usually is the expected behaviour.

Update the version on F-Droid

I like to install apps over F-Droid where possible. But there is a newer version released in the Play Store that isn't available on F-Droid (yet). Why is that?

[feature-request] Nextcloud Addon / more sync options

I want sync between a website and my smartphone, but don't want to store anything on google. Is it possible to store notes on nextcloud (with an Addon) or add a possibility to add another data source on the website and sync destination for the app.

[Feature Request] Reminders based on time

I would like to have an option to set reminder of a note at a specific time.

Delete Images if not being used

There are some edge cases which can cause an image to be left untouched, causing a leak. Remove such redundant images.
Call the existing deleteAllRedundantImageFiles function appropriately and also improve upon it to scan notes too.

F-Droid

I've the feeling your app would be a perfect candidate for the official F-Droid repository: it looks very privacy friendly and seems to have no proprietary dependencies, while offering a good value to users. Hence I've submitted a request for packaging and hope you'll support that (they will build your app from your sources then, but might need a little help setting things up; if they really need the help they will say so in the linked issue).

Until it becomes available there, it already is available via my F-Droid compatible repo, automatically picking updates as soon as you update the APK.

Thinks for you to consider (most of those you're probably already aware of):

• make sure new APKs always have their versionCode increased and the versionName updated appropriately, so they are accepted as updates
• to make updates easier (especially for the official repo), consider tagging releases (using the versionName, prepended with a v, as tag – so e.g. version 1.2.3 should be tagged v1.2.3)

Absent Options

The options for adding a Heading, sub heading, check box, etc. do not appear on the bottom of a new note while creating. Only after saving that note and then opening it again do those options appear at the bottom.

An option for changing the display font would be nice. 2 or 3 new fonts are sufficient. :)

Notes disappear instead of being restored

Thanks for this nice application. Well made as well. It seems to have at least one bug though (or maybe I just do not understand that feature). If you delete a note and go to trash and then choose to restore it, the note is gone.

Btw: Would it be possible to make the note fields smaller in height? It seems really big to me.

Anyways, thats just cosmetics. But thanks for looking into the bug.

[Feature request] Number of text lines in preview

It would be a great improvemet to set the "Number of text lines in preview" in the settings.
For example, with the number set to "1" there are more notes visible in the main screen.

Long lines wrap to the next line making slightly long-line notes scatter. Could be fixed by allowing custom font-sizes.

I think it could be a interesting feature the capability of sort notes not only by create date, but by other parameters: midifing date, alphabetically or freelly.

Show/Hide keyboard issues

• keyboard should be hidden after the note it's closed.
• keyboard should be shown clicking on "Add a note" buttons.

The status bar icons are invisible on Android 5.1.1. It would be good to make it slightly grey like this:

Issue with Markdown

Markdown used in notes don't show up properly in the cards on main page. For e.g, if I bold github in a note, then it shows up ** github ** on the main page. It should ideally show up that way only when the note has been opened for editing.

Tried to upload a screenshot but it wouldn't attach for some reason. Sorry.

[Feature request] Password protect notes

The ability to lock a note behind a password is a nice feature to have. Potentially, a new category, "Locked notes" would need to be added.

Export/Import function bugs

When exporting/importing a backup of our notes, even the deleted ones (!) get backuped and restored.

Steps to reproduce:

• Add several notes
• Delete some of them
• Export BACKUP.txt
• Uninstall App or delete App's data
• Install App (or just fire it up in case you only deleted the app data)
• Grant permissions and import BACKUP.txt

Result: All our notes are back, the formerly deleted ones as well.

Dark theme for note creation

First of all, thank you for this great app! Looks awesome! But I'm a dark theme user and I find kind of annoying the creation of the new notes always in white, without the dark theme applied. Would be possible to fix that?

Steps to reproduce:

• Enable the dark mode
• Open the "No notes" message

three-dots-menu bugs

When you click on a note's three-dots-menu in portrait mode, an additional menu appears at the bottom of the screen, but the menu is not adapting to the screen width, making the items of the last collumn unusable. When you try to rotate the device to landscape mode to see all the menu entries, the app crashes. Same for opening the app in landscape mode and then rotating to portrait mode.

Ways to access the app very quickly from anywhere

Sometimes when you have an idea, you'll want to write it down really fast. Or you suddenly need to take notes on something, but still have to search for and open the notes app. For situations like this, ways to quickly take notes from anywhere would be cool. Possible ways to do that:

• The classic, a widget on the home screen
• A custom quick settings tile (for example NetGuard has this)
• Something on the lock screen? I'm not really sure about this since I don't know how much Android allows apps to meddle with the lockscreen. But it would be great, if possible.

Problem accessing Settings in landscape mode

I just installed Material Notes on a 10" Android tablet, running 6.01 Marshmallow. The use case is replacing a laptop when traveling, and with an external keyboard, it can. It will normally be used in landscape orientation.

Attempting to access Settings in landscape orientation fails. The Settings dialogs don't appear. The only appear in portrait mode, where they expand down the screen below the app.

This is a minor quirk, but it would be nice if the app worked in both orientations.

[Feature Request] when import look forma *.md filed

When importing a file, if the app would search also for *.md extension (markdown) instead of only *.txt, will be possible to open and update .md files that the users are writing with a text editor or with other platforms. Especially useful for WebDav file sync or cloud's files sync.
