I don't get an error with mine but I'm also not using the default crypto_provider. I'm using

c.crypto_provider = Authlogic::CryptoProviders::AES256

because I need to reverse each crypted_password (which I'm still trying to figure out)

This is strange, your login_count column should be an integer with a default of 0. So record.login_count should always be a Fixnum, and never a string. Can you confirm that your column types are correct? Thanks!

Mine is not a varchar, but I get the error as well, although only in production using gem 2.1.1

mig:
add_column :users, :login_count, :integer, :default => 0, :null => false

when in console:

u = User.first
u.login_count
=> 0
u.login_count.class
=> Fixnum

but when actually trying to login, i get error:

TypeError (can't convert Fixnum into String):
authlogic (2.1.1) lib/authlogic/session/magic_columns.rb:50:in `+'
