In order to replicate this bug, a little more details might be helpful.
Like at the very least: which driver is in use, which version, what GPU, is drm in use, if so kernel version might be relevant.

OK, fails with Xserver xorg 1.14.2, intel driver 2.21.12, and yes drm is in use... I kinda suspect some issues with cairo, but dunno, this is rather a gut feeling...

I just tested with intel driver module 2.21.14 from Debian unstable, drm enabled, X.Org X Server 1.12.4, on a Samsung Series 9 ultrabook. Works fine.

It might be easier to just release it, and let bug reports trickle in to figure out the problem. Which might be in the drivers rather than in this code, for all we know.
