That sounds like a problem with either your environment or your connection, especially since the errors are coming from the python internals

I did just push an update to master, but I dont think its related to your issue.

I'd be happy to try on my end too if you can provide me with a small script that reproduces the issue. I was able to run examples/demo.py, among others, so I'm pretty confident the issue is not in this library

Finally I found that the issue has nothing to do with ssl. It's just Bitstamp banned by my local provider.
I created PR to address it - #64
The solution is more like hotfix. Not sure if it needs to be merged as is. But it looks like some refactoring needed for proper fix
