Hey,
Sure, it's definitely something that's needed. As long as it doesn't break the current API I'm fine with it and will happily accept a pull request :)

Hi, I already started developing a whole new widget from scratch. It does not use settings but expects users to inherit the sining view to create permissions & co.
It's too different for a django site. Maybe we can combine our efforts on a later point of time.
