@seedifferently Those parameters will always contain ASCII characters only, so you can:

webhook_notification = braintree.WebhookNotification.parse(
    request.POST['bt_signature'].encode('ascii'),
    request.POST['bt_payload'].encode('ascii')
)

This is the reason we don't show actually getting the parameters from the request in our docs. Different frameworks handle them differently; they might be str / bytes instead of unicode in a different framework, but our library always expects bytestrings.

Please consider adding the above instructions to your documentation. Since different frameworks do indeed handle strings differently, it would be really useful to document that your library expects bytestrings, and that users will need to encode unicode as ascii for those frameworks that speak unicode by default.
