There's no other way, other than comparing xml, which can be brittle if the test is just comparison of strings

Maybe https://www.w3.org/TR/xml-c14n11/ applies. When I created this ticket those specs were only 6months old ;)

Possibly, but just to be on same page, you mean utilize xpath to verify? Is that inference correct, or just something along the lines of verify two document tree objects>
