Generally not in favour of anything too complicated here.
My suggestion would be that we allow Validators to set a "Vanity Name" on the State Chain (probably in the Validator Pallet) and that we leave it there for now. The data still lives on-chain, but it lives on our own chain.
I don't want to tie things to ENS because we're not an Ethereum-exclusive product, and it might upset a few maxis. We unfortunately have to pander a little.

Storing data on the SC is also a lot cheaper. We could even allow users to upload a thumbnail for their avatar.
(Or bridge across their favourite NFT?? 🤔 haha )
