Only concern I've got about this is that I'd rather keep the method of generating this info on linux to be "route" rather than changing it, out of API stability concerns. Similarly, having two different methods means you might get two different answers, so we shouldn't use "route" when we're root on AIX and then fall back to "netstat -rn" when non-root. So the title should probably be "we should (always) use netstat -rn on AIX for route information".

I just heard that Chef is shooting for October GA for chef-client. However, we need this issue to be fixed to communicate to any Linux chef server. I was wondering about when we are expecting a patch to be made available with this fix.

@rmaskara It will be fixed by the time the AIX chef client goes GA. We currently do not have any released builds that we can commercially support for AIX.
