You mean that you don't use GUI? If so, you can easily save your password.

If you're using CLI, you can do:

  • create auth.txt in /etc/openvpn/
  • add 2 lines:
    • username
    • password
  • save
  • edit /etc/openvpn/client.conf
  • change auth-user-pass to auth-user-pass auth.txt

Should be good.

@SansPseudoFix
Thanks, I will try it.

=== EDIT ===
It worked!. thanks.

For the sake of completeness, Here are the instructions to use openvpn as an always connected unattended background process in a Debian distro:

  1. As per the instructions, extract and copy all the generated files to /etc/openvpn
  2. Then, also in /etc/openvpn create a file named auth.txt with two lines:
    • username
    • password
  3. Edit the file /etc/openvpn/, changing the line auth-user-pass to auth-user-pass auth.txt
  4. In order for the openvpn proccess to automatically run on system boot you have to enable it. Add the line AUTOSTART="client" to /etc/default/openvpn.
  5. Restart the openvpn service systemctl daemon-reload && service openvpn restart, or restart the computer.
  6. Enjoy your always connected unattended vpn connection.

Cheers!.
