The solution is to use the add ons manager to open the preferences for the google calendar tab and set the URI explicitly to https://www.google.com/calendar/render?hl=en&tab=mc&pli=1

My guess is that the user agent field set by the extension is confusing Google into sending the mobile version. Using the explicit URI for the desktop version overrides the selection based upon the user agent detection.

Looks like the mobile version of Google Calendar. Just change your calendar URL or choose Desktop at the bottom.

The problem is still present.

There is no "desktop" option at the bottom. There is no way to change the url in the extension settings and the url in about:config is correct.

I tried to uninstall and then reinstall the extension. It seems to work but if you close the google calendar tab, it re-opens with the mobile layout.

I reproduced the bug on different computer with google calendar tab 3.9 and icedove 17.0.10

It is definitively a bug and you shouldn't have closed it before the fix.

Just had this problem for the first time today. Perhaps Google has changed their UA detection and so now Thunderbird is assumed to be a mobile UA?

This is a "me too" comment because this just happened to me. So this solution continues to be relevent. Note that in the preferences dialog for the google calendar there is an option to change the url to a hard coded one. If you pick that option without editing it the change will not save. If you look at it again the top option is selected. This is not intuitive...
