This is related to supercollider bug #3393

sclang continues to run an interactive terminal, even if it was started from a non-interactive terminal. No exit codes, no way to handle it nicely.

Currently I wait for expected output, then have the shell kill itself

This needs to be improved in the short term to do any error handling (an OR perhaps in the sed match), but in the long term resolving the sc bug is the actual fix.

xvfb is being started/stopped via a systemd service unit file

This failed on ubuntu 18.04 on WSL which doesn't use systemd for init

Investigate running xvfb via other means

cabal install is:

• fine on 18.04
• warns on 20.04

cabal v1-install is:

• missing on 18.04
• fine on 20.04

Need to understand the problem a little more, cabal says something about project layout for moving to v2 usage... @yaxu I could probably use a 30s explanation at some point if you wouldn't mind?

Currently, if superdirt is installed we don't run the checkforupdates function (I'm still not super comfortable being in sclang more than I need to)

This may be achievable outside of sclang, potentially comparing the git checkout against upstream?
