tried:
- running task syntax conditionally in a main.yml, (ie if old ansible do this, if new ansible do this_new_syntax), but it would just fail at the earliest stage of syntax checking - this problem ultimately killed the possibility of doing the pre-check ansible upgrade, because I couldn't run one playbook with different syntax support
- tried installing a virtualenv/modern ansible with pip, but required a second execution call for the playbook (plus required leaving some cruft around in
/usr/local/bin
potentially)
after a bit of testing, include_tasks
was the only incompatible module it seems, so I've reverted to using the legacy include:
syntax instead
This means for as long as we're supporting debian 9/stretch we will need to use ansible 2.2 compatibility
