Do you require all createElement calls to be modified, or just those that create elements in the parent document? The created IFRAME, I would guess, would be regular HTML document, and create html elements by default.

I suppose only those in the parent document; I just did a find-files and took the lazy route... In case you aren't used to using the namespaced DOM methods, I should have mentioned that the element names need to be lower-case.

What you can do is: write a patch that adds a frameHeight option, and (both in the outside-of-the-frame code codemirror.js and in util.js) make a function createElement(document, tag), which checks whether document.createElementNS exists, and if it does, calls that with xhtml namespace and the tag name downcased, and otherwise just directly calls document.createElement.
