How? Check for a close match of bytecode? Do eth.calls on some functions? Or just fail txes normally?

Might be unrealistic considering that some released tokens don't have all functional support.

This seems to have caused troubles already with the likes of Beercoin.

The reason is: the ABI being loaded is the HumanStandardToken ABI. This results in checks firing errors in web3. Will need to do some basic regex on contract code most likely to find function signatures for the optionals.
