Nothing prevents someone to open pull requests backporting new Ltac2 features on the v8.10 branch of Ltac2 here: https://github.com/coq/ltac2/tree/v8.10
However, it is my understanding that @ppedrot thinks that many of these changes would be hard to backport because they may rely on new API extensions of Coq 8.10. Nonetheless, I doubt that it would prevent backporting any of the recent "library" improvements.

It's going to be a lot of work for little appreciable gain, I think. If you add atop of that the API issues, it becomes virtually infeasible. So, my answer is "not worth it".

I'll clarify Enrico's question. List.v (which I would like to use) compiles with each of the opam packages for Ltac2. Is there any reason to avoid having new opam packages that add up to List.v?

In that case this is fairly easy indeed. You'll still have to resurrect the Ltac2 repo I think, so it will generate a bit of friction.
from platform.
It has already been resurrected following a request by @MSoegtropIMC IIRC. All you need to do is to open a PR on the v8.10 branch. Then someone with write-access (e.g. @ppedrot) will need to merge the PR and create a new tag. And then anybody can create an opam release.

Should this remain open or be closed? The original posting is in the form of a question implying a specific change.

AFAICT this can remain open as a wish: it would still be useful to address if some people volunteer to do it (as I explained above, anyone can do it) but it doesn't seem like it has been a priority for the main Ltac2 developers until now.

I can do this - I am anyway writing opam packages for various as part of the coq platform

Sorry, was too busy with Coq Platform. @gares: is this still relevant?
