As noted in the other issue (#54), JDK 1.8 is required -- and it's only been tested using the official Oracle JDK (not OpenJDK). I wouldn't expect OpenJDK to cause problems, but if we can't trace the problems to anything else, then it certainly might be OpenJDK.

I've updated the README to reflect that JDK 1.8 is required and to provide a link to the Oracle downloads for JDK 1.8.
