Do you think it is worth something explicitly saying stderr is empty?

I think that is a good idea...

Or how about the [output] tab changes to [stdout, stderr, status] with each of those words in their corresponding colours (in the actual tab), and the contents no longer contain the :stdout: :stderr: :status: heading-lines, only the actual contents of stdout, stderr, status in their appropriate colour...?

I don't really understand that, but I think you may be suggesting changing it so that :stdout:, :stderr: and :status: are shown in black, or some non-standout colour... And then only their text content is highlighted with colour... And I like this idea.

Thanks for the awesome tool, by the way!

One thing to bear in mind is that the stdout/stderr is for all language+testFrameworks.
There is no consistency in errors going to stderr (rather than stdout).
In other words, some write error messages to stdout.
So I am reluctant to colour stdout in green (hence it is blue).
Really appreciate the feedback :-)

Ah!
I like this suggestion a lot.

Kind of a separate issue, but I also note that there is no green in the output for a passing test - thinking of red/green/refactor.

I realise now that the red/green are in the traffic lights, so it matters a lot less in the output window...

That makes sense... I wonder whether an exit status of 0 could be shown in green? and non-zero perhaps red?

claremacrae avatar claremacrae commented on June 1, 2024

But as I said, that's all really a separate/bonus issue from the purpose of this ticket...

Alas there is no consistency in test frameworks setting their exit-status with appropriate zero, non-zero values.
So I am also reluctant to colour the status number either red or green...
