Regarding your test case, I’d also take a look at the brush snapping examples. I’ve made a new Brush Snapping III that shows how I’d implement your example.

Yeah. The issue is that a degenerate (collapsed) selection is treated as the null selection within the context of brush.move. And then, if you set the selection to null while a brush gesture is active, it crashes. Probably the brush should ignore the externally-set selection in this case, changing this:

selection = state.selection; // May be set by brush.move!

To this:

if (state.selection) selection = state.selection; // May be set by brush.move!

I'm seeing this issue as well with the latest brush.clear(selection) shorthand. I think it may have to do with my use of brush.filter(() => d3.event.shiftKey).
