Update: I think the easiest solution would be to move the entire /img dir to a new gh-pages branch (which should be empty otherwise), and remove it from master branch. Afterwards, just flip the settings switch to gh-pages, and modify the readme to point to the published images there.

Please send me a pull request to add img/ to .npmignore to fix this issue.

@mbostock sure, but I cannot move the img/ files to a new branch that doesn't exist - only you can create gh-pages branch.
