You should put the rewrite rules in the vhost file tbh, not a .htaccess

Depends on your setup, but I take your point that perhaps it shouldn't be there by default.

Perhaps it should be created as part of the setup script, as an optional "do you want to create a .htaccess file?" option (perhaps outputting the required code to the screen so you can copy/paste into your Apache config if you select no).

Being Apache-specific, I can't see any rationale for this. The .htaccess rules are already clear in the README, and if you're using nginx you'll want the nginx-specific location directive.

@MarkMaldaba @jfi This is exactly the reason it isn't in the repository, most specifically because my dev server runs nginx. :)
