On one hand it may be interesting to support this, on the other hand this is the kind of things that only need to be setup once with the compositior/VM/DE, so it is not critical to support it.

i suggested this so it can be done on the application level, as doing it on the compositor side causes text to be transparent as well

off the top of my head i know that zathura, rofi, and most text editors like emacs support this, as well as any gtk program following the gtk css spec like waybar support opacity. i do know that you can work opacity into gtk themes as well, though that'd probably require quite a bit more work then the other programs

Could you list some applications that support such a feature ? I don't know any except for terminal emulators.
