Here are two ways of implementing this:

Thumbnails

Each image takes up the same space and is shown on a thumbnail grid. The screenshot is an early version: I still have to update the CSS so that portrait images take up the same space. Does not require any additional library.

Mosaic

Images are shown as a mosaic. Needs an additional library. The simplest library (Salvattore.js) makes a mosaic by grouping the images in columns. The disadvantage is that it doesn't take into consideration the image height, some columns (e.g. second one) are much higher than others. Another library (Masonry.js) exists, but I had overlapping images and it will probably take too much time to make it work for this POC.

So, what's your preference: simple thumbnail grid or mosaic with some issues?

This is now part of the code and works. Because of some issues in extracting #86, many broken images are still shown.
