I hope this wasn't my changes, sorry if it was (I think I had some relative imports). I ran tests against my own test suite manually, but not against the whole thing. Should I be following these instructions before sending out pull requests, or is there another recommended (i.e. faster) method?

I think they've been broken for a while actually, so not your fault :-). I've also just been running individual test files manually.

I think those instructions are a little out of date. I'll update them for DNS, WSR and the other engines once I have everything working. The test suite in setup.py should probably be a suite for the text input engine, as it has no additional dependencies. I would say just keep running your own tests for the moment.
