digibp_appenzeller's Issues

Research Kanban Method

Look into how the kanban method can be applied to the warehouse & stock level management

Outcome:
KanBan Procedure
A company can use one of several methods to signal stock replenishment with a Kanban system. For example, colored bins or reorder cards are methods that signal it is time to repurchase materials or parts. Companies can use the Kanban system on the production floor to signal replenishment from inventory stock as well as in the stockroom to signal a repurchase. In a Kanban system, when a worker reaches the end of a bin, he orders stock internally or passes the information to purchasing for a stock purchase, but no material moves if the bins remain full.

Benefits
A Kanban system allows a company to reduce inventory levels, which reduces the cost associated with stocking and storing materials in the organization. Cost reductions occur in the expense of the inventory itself as well as the cost of warehousing and maintaining inventory. Companies that use a Kanban system in a lean environment allow actual customer demand to determine the need for materials and not forecasts of the demand.

Obstacles
An organization must determine the appropriate levels of material to keep on hand to prevent stock-outs, which lead to production shutdowns. The lead-time for parts and materials from vendors is a factor in determining the optimum level of inventory. The organization may adjust the Kanban levels several times before finding the best quantity of material to keep on hand for production or distribution.

Innovation: Digital Recycling Process

Customers can return their old electronics to us
Research:

  • How to digitalise this process:
  1. Users register online what type of item they want to recycle
  2. They have the option to drop it off at a store themselves or for it to be picked up
2.1 If pick up has been selected they can choose a date and from predefined time slots
  3. The user gets a voucher/benefit for recycling
  • Can we sell this or do we have to pay for the recycling
  • What will the process be for the users returning the electronics (how are they sending/delivering it to us, do we have to provide them with packaging?)
  • What is our process for recycling the electronics
  • Who can we partner with to set up the collection?
