I'm not sure what will be the best solution. It seems like an annoyance to have to switch to your console and press a key to confirm, but it would ensure premature saves and out-of-turn saves do not pass the turn or mess up the order. Maybe add it as an option?

Your original suggestion was that a turn looks like:

  • Open file thats been automatically downloaded
  • Play (autosaves and/or backs can be saved so long as other files are used)
  • Save back to the correct file to show that you are done. Player must have finished his/her turn otherwise things get screwed up.

Right?

Another option is to send the notification email on the first upload, then allow the same player to upload again until the next player uploads. This would allow the first player to amend a premature save if the second player does not react right away. But it could also introduce more mess.

Yes.

If the first player has not finished his or her turn, the game would open still in their turn. My last suggestion would make sure it is possible to fix a premature save. The first player could notify the second player he or she is not done, instead of having to go through the whole round or reset the server.

As previously noted, the game does give you a very natural break where you should do your save. As long as everyone knows how it works, it's very unlikely we need to think about all of this at all.

Ok cool. Lets go with the simplest solution first and see if it ever becomes an issue then.
