That's a really weird issue. Not sure why you are receiving it because defineNuxtConfig should be correct.

Shouldn't the repo run with what is in package.json? I also encounter a tsconfig file problem:

./.nuxt/tsconfig not found

If I look at the repo there is indeed no tsconfig. Is this missing "by default"? Do I have to create it in advance? (I would assume that it has to be in the repo ...)

It should indeed run fine with what's in package.json.

The tsconfig is located here and then the one you mention ./nuxt/tsconfig.json should be generated by Nuxt when running the dev server or a build.
