The fix is to emulate SIGEV_THREAD in DMTCP. This can be done by copying the appropriate code/files from libc implementation of SIGEV_THREAD into DMTCP. This way, DMTCP will be able to update the tid on restart.
This would also require us to have a wrapper for timer_create inside the pid plugin to translate between real and virtual tids.
