Hi there. Unfortunately there's no formal spec of drand now, I'm working on a general article but it's far from being ready - I could send it to you privately if needed. The logic however is greatly influenced by the dfinity random beacon 's design.
I'd be interested to know in what context you're working on this - I'm currently working on eth2.0 - we could have a chat sometime !

I'm currently working on eth2.0 as well!
The purpose of the survey paper is to help the general research community know the state of distributed randomness beacons so that we can come up with other potential designs of randomness beacons. This is a very hard problem that various blockchain projects are doing work in and I would like to contribute more to the effort.
