What do you mean with student directories disappear?

Currently the student/ directory is deleted and re-populated every time you run nbauthor. This means that if you run nbauthor with a date before any of the deadlines it will generate a directory that contains only the files you listed as "extra files" in config.yml.

This does mean you should not modify anything in student/ by hand and we should maybe add a bigger warning about that.

For me there are now two questions:

  1. warn user when the run nbauthor --date <a date in the past>
  2. inform user that student/ is deleted and recreated every time they run nbauthor.

just a note @betatim that what happened was i ran nbauthor with a very early data - before the deadlines. Based upon what you told me yesterday, it just rebuilt the entire directory which meant there was nothin to build because my date was before the release of any of the homeworks (by mistake)
