agreed with @B-Galati ; You can (and in my opinion should) use alias in your parameters.yml file
Other option is to based on ENV variable - https://docs.docker.com/compose/env/

Yes the question is whether it should be mentioned in the instructions.
Using the docker automatic hosts is clearly the best way to configure the database host.

@Glideh Yes sorry ! I think no. It's a basic docker feature and one project cannot document every single feature it used.

I probably spent even more time than @Glideh finding this answer. I'm new to docker, but wanted to try it out with my symfony app but didn't realize I had to use the database container alias in my parameters.yml
