Centos/RHEL/OEL version 5 rpms about beats

I think we figured a way to build statically against libpcap. This makes it more easy to run binaries in other OSes and maybe also to create RPMs for OEL 5. We'll update this ticket when we manage that.

We did the static build against libpcap, but unfortunately that isn't enough because the libc versions are different. So there's no shortcut and we'll need to setup the packaging process on CentOS 5. We'll do it, but probably in around 2 months from now. If anyone wants to contribute these builds, we can provide some guidance and the scripts we use for CentOS 6.

Was this closed because Cent5 builds are now available? I was unable to locate them.

The project doesn't have any official support for RHEL 5. The code is written in Go and the Go project doesn't support CentOS/RHEL 5 (they require kernel "2.6.23 or later", from golang.org).
